Panzura, one of the world’s leading suppliers of online storage solutions, recently revealed that exp selected the award-winning Panzura Global Online Storage System and EMC Atmos online storage to replace local filers for workflow sharing and tape for backup in its larger offices.
exp, one of N.America’s fastest-growing consulting companies, providing building engineering, environment, and sustainability services to clients around the world, is very confident in their cost and labor savings from removing its tape infrastructure and associated onsite backup software.
exp CIO Doug Caldwell stated: ‘Sharing across offices had become problematic with local filers, and tape for backup brings a litany of challenges. But replacing this storage and tape involved various moving parts: central storage, local filers, local backup, and workflow sharing. We evaluated a variety of alternatives but were most impressed by all the benefits of online storage.
The Panzura Global Online Storage System and EMC Atmos online storage jointly provide a seamless, drop-in solution to cover all the moving parts of workflow sharing and tape backup, support our suite of applications, and provide unlimited capacity. We’re actively exploring other ways to use this combined solution.’
exp supports its 108 offices from Alaska to Florida with employees numbering from just 2 all the way to over 100, with storage levels of just a few terabytes to more than 20. With the software cost and capital building by double-digit percentages every year, exp needed to seek out a more efficient, cost-effective storage solution.
Upon evaluating a number of online storage-related options, exp chose the solution from Panzura using EMC Atmos in part due to its value, seamless integration and improved manpower productivity. According to Caldwell, the results so far have been ‘impressive’.
CEO for Panzura Randy Chou commented: ‘Online storage is quickly becoming a tier of choice for housing unstructured data. exp evaluated a number of point solutions with an online storage connection but discovered them to be insufficient. We’re very pleased that exp chose Panzura and EMC to meet their sharing and backup needs. We look forward to meeting more of their future storage needs.’
EMC Atmos supplies an object-based online storage architecture to store, access, and archive unstructured content at scale. Atmos offers additional online storage capabilities to the solution which include metadata-driven policies, storage-as-a-service, and instant access to files.
EMC’s Director of Product Marketing Kate Canestrari said: ‘EMC Atmos, when combined with Panzura’s Global Online Storage System, helps customers achieve a new level of scale, automation and efficiency. This solution offers a flexible platform to build, deploy and deliver extra online storage use cases which can help extend our customers’ business.’
